    X3464 SANTA FE OPERATING BOX CAR (1950), TYPE 2 - BLACK METAL DOORS WITH LADDERS

        | Made by Lionel between 1949 and 1952. 9 and a  quarter inch operating box car, orange painted  body with black heat-stamped lettering, car also  numbered 63132, A.T. & S.F. (Santa Fe) logo on  left and technical data on right, brake wheel,  operating plunger mechanism with rubberized man,  and staple-end trucks with magnetic couplers.  1949  production - brown painted metal doors,  frame with metal ladders on four corners (part of  the frame stamping, not seperately applied). 1950  production - chemically blackened metal doors and  ladders. 1951 production - chemically blackened  metal doors but ladders were eliminated. The 1952  version has black plastic doors and no ladders. A  very rare variation exists which is tan in color,  usually used for the X3464 NYC and has white  heat-stamped letters.       |
